What the Scriptures Say
About how Heaven, Earth, and Life came to Be

"In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."   Gen. 1:1

"Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."  Gen. 2:7

"And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them...."
Gen. 2:19

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work... For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and set it apart." Ex. 20:9-11;

"And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD and said. 'O LORD, the God of Israel, who art enthroned above the cherubim, Thou art the God, Thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth.  Thou hast made heaven and earth."  2 Kings 19:15

"Thy hands fashioned and made me altogether, and wouldst Thou destroy me?  'Remember now, that Thou hast made me as clay; and wouldst Thou turn me into dust again?  'Didst Thou not pour me out like milk, and curdle me like cheese; clothe me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews?"  Job 10:8-9

"The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life... Behold, I belong to God like you; I too have been formed out of the clay."  Job 33:4, 6

"Far be it from God to to wickedness, and from the Almighty to do wrong.  For He pays a man according to his work, and makes him find it according to his way... If He should determine to do so, I He should gather to Himself His spirit and His breath, All flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust."  Job 34:10-11, 14

"By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host... Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.  For He spoke, and it was done;  He commanded, and it stood fast."
Ps. 33:6-9

"Of old Thou didst found the earth; and the heavens are the work of Thy hands.  Even they will perish, but Thou dost endure;  And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing Thou wilt change them... But Thou art the same, and Thy years will not come to an end."  Ps. 102:25-27;

"For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb.  I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made... My frame was not hidden from Thee, when I was made in secret... Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Thy book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them."  Ps. 139:13-15

"Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales... All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless.  To whom then will you liken God?  Or what likeness will you compare with Him?  ...  It is He who sits above the vault of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.... Lift up your eyes on high and see who created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number; He calls them all by name;  Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power not one of them is missing." Isa. 40:15, 18, 22, 26

"Thus says God the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk in it.  I am the LORD, I have called you in righteousness, I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you, and I will appoint you as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations, To open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those who dwell in darkness from the prison.  I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images.  Behold, the former things have come to pass, now I declare new things; Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you."  Isa. 42:5-9

"But now thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel, Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!" Isa. 43:1

"I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.'  Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth, Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made."  Isa. 43:6-7

"Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you, Do not fear, O Jacob My servant and Jeshurun whom I have chosen."  Isa 44:2

"It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it.  I stretched out the heavens with My hands, and I ordained all their host."  Isa. 45:12

"Surely My hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens..." Isa. 48:13

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you;  I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."  Jer. 1:5

"... Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power and by Thine outstretched arm!  Nothing is too difficult for Thee ...  O great and mighty God.  The LORD of hosts is His name; great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, giving to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds."  Jer. 32:17

"But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.  For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and the two shall become one flesh; consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh.  What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."  Mk. 10:6-9

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being."
  John 1:1-3

"The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things; and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and boundaries... that they should seek God, ... and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist..."  Acts 17:24-28

"
And He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation.  For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible... all things have been created by Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.  He is also the head of the bogy, the church; and He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything."  Col. 1:15-18

"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world."
  Heb. 1:1-2

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  For by it men of old gained approval.  By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible."
Heb. 11:1-3
