Social Issues and the Word of God
 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”  Psalm 33:12 

Should Christians take a stand on issues that affect our freedom to speak in public and educate children or leave such things to the State?  Is it OK for God’s people to just attend church, bible study and social functions, or should we actually seek to win the world for Christ?  We know that Christ has set us free, but is it good to spend all, or most of our spare time watching TV or movies, playing video games, or having fun with their family and friends, or are we supposed to be about our Father’s business?  Is it good or bad for a Child of God to get involved with public and/or government service? 

Proverbs 24:11 tells those who believe in God to "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death” and not to do nothing.  And though this could easily be applied to abortion, many who claim the name of Christ have time and again voted for candidates who publicly condone the killing of the innocent, while others have simply excused themselves from involvement.  Others seem to think that government can and should redefine marriage so as to call right what God and nature itself tells us is wrong.¹

2 Chron. 7:14 says that IF God’s people will humble themselves and pray, and seek (His) face and turn from their wicked ways, that He will hear, forgive their sin, and heal their land.

In Isaiah 1:10-20 the Lord sternly scolds the Israelites for thinking they could live for themselves and their own  pleasure while offering up sacrifices.  But God called their offerings worthless and refused to listen to their multiplied prayers.  That’s because He wanted THEM to earnestly seek Him, practice kindness, compassion and justice, and change their selfish and self-serving ways.

Psalm 82 tells us that God "judges in the midst of the rulers," and scolds them for unjust judgments.  Isaiah 40 tells us that God "reduces rulers to nothing," and makes their judgments meaningless.   In other words, God is very much concerned with government and is one day going to govern the earth: and us with Him.

When the Israelites went to battle they often had to go out and actually fight (against) their enemies, as opposed to ignoring them or expecting God to do for them what they themselves were capable of doing.

Proverbs 29:25 says that “The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted.”  See also Psalm 118:8, Jer. 17:5-8; Luke 12:4-5 and I Pet. 4:12-19.

Hosea 5:11 tells us that “Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to follow man’s command.” … probably because he was more concerned with pleasing men than God.  In contrast, Proverbs 28:1 tells us that “The righteous are as bold as a lion," and Psalm 94:16 asks a pertinent question with regard to this issue: i.e. “Who will stand up… against evildoers?  Who will take his stand … for me against those who do evil?”  This is a good question.  Are evildoers expected to oppose evildoers, or does king David have someone else in mind?  Jesus said that we are the “light of the world,” and the “salt of the earth” and warned that if we cease to be salty we will be trampled upon by men: Matt. 5:13-16.  Salt is intended to preserve good fish and make it taste better.  If it doesn’t then it might as well be tossed out.

Prov. 24:25 tells us that “those who rebuke the wicked…” will receive a “good blessing…”

2 Chronicles 16:9 says that “… the eyes of the Lord seek to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” 

Psalm 9:17 says that “The wicked will return to Sheol, even all the nations who forget God.” Why should nations and their leaders be mindful of God if God’s people are afraid to confront them, or to be involved with public service?  See also Jer. 1:5 and Ezek. 14:13-20.

Psalm 21:8 tells us God is looking to see who His enemies are, and Jer. 17:13 that He is taking notes.

Mal. 4:5-6 tells us it is evil to needlessly or maliciously separate Children from their Fathers, and that doing so will bring a curse.  Joel 3:3 tells us that God does not approve of selling and trading Children for Money; yet these things are happening all over our land by Courts that are operated by and for the benefit of lawyers, therapists, psychologists and social workers: as opposed to families and children or the public good.  In addition, Uncle Sam’s printing press now offers the States $4,000-6,000 per Child (per month) to put Children in Foster Homes, and which is now happening (more and more) for trivial and/or trumped up reasons: and most of this Money is being kept by the State to spend as they see fit.

Approximately 37% of divorced fathers have no contact at all with their children: even though many of them pay child support and would gladly remain involved if they were encouraged to do so.  Many of them don’t because the States use children to generate income for court officials and social workers.

Single mothers are icons who can do no wrong, while fathers labeled “Deadbeats,” after being Robbed and Forced out of their children’s lives by Family Courts while the media remains silent: even after the facts are placed right in front of them. ²

Cowardice, apathy, lying, immorality, and willful ignorance are rampant.  These are also why the wrath of God is coming, and why our Lord told us to warn people to turn from evil and seek Him now. ³

Isaiah 58:1-14 tells those who are serious with God to raise their voices against unrighteousness and oppression.  In Acts 25 and 26 the apostle Paul sought to win local officials to the Lord.  And in Malachi 3:16-18 we are told that God makes a distinction between those who serve Him and those who don’t.

Some say that God’s people shouldn’t participate in a government that’s supposed to be “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” much less to expose corrupt leaders to the light of day. Ephesians 5:11 and the above Scriptures suggest otherwise: as do the lives of 3,500,000 Americans who thus far have given their lives for the cause of Freedom and Truth: John 8:32; 12:24; 14:6.

Edwin Burke said that evil will triumph when good people simply spend their time doing their own thing and refuse to get involved in the fight of good vs evil.  Proverbs 21:13 says that such apathy will cause God to cease listening to our prayers.

Some claim that “soldiers” of Christ are forbidden to speak out against injustice and evil, much less to take a few hours – once every two years – to vote.  The witness of the prophets, ⁵ John the Baptist, ⁶ Jesus ⁷ the apostles ⁸ and common sense suggest otherwise.

One radio talk show host put it this way: “Either immoral people or good people will rule …” and as a direct result, “our laws will either promote good or evil behavior: depending on who makes them.”  And as far as I know, this man is not even a Christian.
